Calculating your staff turnover figures

It is useful to monitor your staff turnover so that you can check out trends against your competitors and analyse whether you are losing more or less staff year on year as a proportion of your total number of employees.  The following formula is used to work this out.

Number of Staff leaving in the period                x 100  =  Staff turnover
Average number of staff employed in the period

This formula can be used to calculate total number of leavers and also different groups, for example resignations, dismissals or retirements.  By selecting different part of the business you are able to determine if there is a higher turnover is certain departments.  The formula can be used for calculating monthly, quarterly, and annual trends.
